Traveling US Highway 17, Then and Now

Saturday, October 25, 2025 (2:00 PM - 3:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

Please join us at Ashantilly on Saturday, October 25, from 2:00–3:30 p.m. We are delighted to welcome Janet Gritzner for a special presentation: “Traveling US Highway 17 through South Carolina and Georgia: Then and Now” Janet Gritzner is a historian and researcher with a deep interest in the cultural landscapes of the American South. Her work often highlights the ways history, travel, and community intersect along historic highways and byways. In her presentation, “Traveling US Highway 17 through South Carolina and Georgia: Then and Now,” Janet takes audiences on a journey along one of the South’s most storied coastal routes. Blending archival images and research with contemporary perspectives, she explores how US 17 has shaped—and been shaped by—the people, towns, and landscapes it connects. From its role in commerce and tourism to the enduring charm of the communities along its path, Janet’s talk invites us to reflect on the changes and continuities of this historic highway. Come enjoy this engaging journey through history and place, followed by light refreshments and fellowship. Seating is limited and reservations are required. We look forward to seeing you there!
